The railroad industry is a good example of how VMI’s customized solutions work for a variety of applications. The railroads had a difficult time keeping track of all the railcars they manage. Remote inventory tracking was difficult and expensive until VMI provided a solution.

	Utilizing proprietary technology, VMI developed a system that provides a precise image of each car and collects automatic equipment identification data, even when traveling at speeds in excess of 70 mph. The resulting images and data are sent over ordinary telephone lines to a central monitoring station, providing a low cost and accurate inventory system with a precise record of time and location.

	As is often the case, one good solution leads to another. The railroad system now provides information about the weight of the cars and maintenance problems that need attention. All information, both data and visual images, are compiled on the same record resulting in simplified operations and reduced costs.



	A major communications company wanted to combine all its network management information in a highly comprehensive and reliable control environment. Working together with VMI they built a highly sophisticated video based control center, that allows network technicians to determine at a glance the status of their regional network.



	The U.S. government needed a highly mobile system to collect both visual images and data and get them to a command center quickly and reliably. The VMI solution, a portable data center that can create images, data, or facsimile information in the field and then transmit it via satellite or ordinary phone lines in a matter of seconds.
